The Australian Steakhouse App Design
An intuitive way to order food.

Overview
This project was a conceptual case study created as part of the Google UX Design Professional Certificate. The brief involved designing the digital experience for an imaginary Australian steakhouse, which also required developing the brand identity, including the name, logo and visual style. The goal was to create an intuitive food ordering application that allows users to browse the menu, read and post reviews, and place orders while building a stronger connection with the brand.
Research Insights
To better understand the target user and their food ordering experience, I conducted a competitive audit, developed user personas, journey maps and user flows, and carried out user interviews to uncover 3 key pain points in existing single-restaurant food delivery apps:
Wireframes
I designed the wireframes to establish a clear and intuitive user flow, focusing on easy navigation, structured information hierarchy and a simplified ordering process. I also ensured seamless delivery and pickup selection, along with a clear and reliable checkout experience.
Usability Testing
Using low-fidelity prototypes I developed based on the wireframes, I conducted usability testing with 5 users to identify friction points within the ordering flow. Based on the findings, I iterated the design to improve usability and simplify the overall experience.

Testing revealed that users struggled to access the full menu and found the search bar confusing and unnecessary for a single restaurant. I replaced it with promotional banners, followed by dish categories and popular items. I also highlighted the Home button to improve orientation and draw attention to the navigation bar, where users can easily access the menu.
Users found the overlay dish view difficult to read and frustrating to use. In response, I redesigned it as a dedicated dish page featuring a large image, a clear and easy-to-read description, as well as dish ratings and reviews.

Usability Testing

Testing showed that the pickup and delivery selection was confusing for users. To improve clarity, I placed both options on the same level and introduced a slider underneath to make the selection more intuitive. I also widened the input fields and action buttons to improve readability and ease of interaction.
Users found the final overlay screen not clear and were unsure whether any further action was required. The review option was also difficult to notice. I redesigned the Order Delivered screen as a separate page with two clear next-step options, prioritising dish reviews.
